The Caribbean AI Summit Healthcare Hackathon, sponsored by the Centro Unido de Detallistas (CUD), is an in-person build sprint focused on addressing healthcare challenges in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
From October 8–10, 2026, participants will collaborate to design and prototype practical solutions that improve how people access, experience, and deliver healthcare.
Areas to explore include:
- Access to care: Helping people find services, navigate the healthcare system, and connect with providers.
- Patient and caregiver support: Making health information easier to understand and everyday care easier to manage.
- Healthcare operations: Simplifying administrative tasks, improving coordination, and reducing barriers for patients and providers.
Bring your perspective: whether you work in healthcare, development, design, business, or are simply interested in solving meaningful problems. Teams of 2–4 participants, pre-formed teams, and solo participants are welcome. Use the tools and technologies that best fit your solution.
Schedule
- Thursday, October 8: Evening kickoff, challenge briefing, and team formation.
- Friday, October 9: Project development and mentorship.
- Saturday, October 10: Project submissions, final presentations, judging, and awards.
With mentorship and $10,000 in prizes, this is an opportunity to turn your ideas into working prototypes with practical value for our communities.
Requirements
Each team or solo participant must submit the following through Devpost before the submission deadline:
- Project name
- Team members
- 2–3 sentence description identifying the healthcare problem, intended users, and proposed solution
- Working demo OR a demo video of up to 2 minutes showing the prototype’s core functionality
- Link to the code repository (GitHub or similar), with basic instructions for running or reviewing the project
Optional:
- Slide deck (3–5 slides max)
- Live hosted demo
- A clearly defined healthcare challenge relevant to Puerto Rico or the Caribbean
- A working prototype that demonstrates the proposed solution, even if simple
- Thoughtful use of tools and technology appropriate to the problem
- Practical value, usability, and a realistic path to implementation
- Responsible handling of data, privacy, and the solution’s limitations
Data and demonstration guidelines:
Use synthetic, public, or organizer-approved datasets that contain no identifiable patient information. Do not include real patient records, confidential information, or credentials in your submission, repository, or demo.
